In order to maximise the passive solar heating the orientation of the Eco Pod is very important and a great deal of design has gone into the placement of all windows, doors and external louvers to maximise solar heat gain during the cooler months and minimise direct sunlight intrusion in the hotter seasons.
The building envelope which includes the floor, walls, windows, ceiling and roof are very highly insulated with radiant heat barriers, multiple layers of high grade insulation, double glazed thermally broken windows and doors. This provides a building that requires approximately 65% less energy to heat and cool the building over a 12 month period. Even though the Eco Pod is very tightly sealed the heating and cooling system still can provide up to 100% fresh air to each room providing a healthy and productive environment for the occupants. During ideal conditions the building allows cross ventilation to naturally and efficiently cool or warm the living space.
